No yoga props? 10 things you already have at home that you can use in your practice

✦ 2 min

1. Books instead of blocks

To support your hands, in a forward fold or in a squat

You don't have to buy special blocks right away. Two or three larger books can give you a similar height and help you find more space in the pose.

2. A pillow instead of a bolster

For restorative poses, under your knees in savasana, under your chest or between your knees.

3. A blanket instead of a meditation cushion

You can fold it and sit higher, which makes it easier to keep your spine long.

4. A scarf or a bathrobe belt instead of a yoga strap

For stretching your legs, opening your shoulders and all the poses where your hands can't reach each other yet.

5. A chair

For beginners' yoga, practice without loading the wrists, support in balances and for rest, and a change of perspective for those who have practised for a long time.

6. A wall

For balance, stretching your legs, rest and a sense of safety. Such as Viparita Karani (legs up the wall)

7. A blanket as an extra layer for comfort

Not only for Savasana. You can use it under your knees, wrists or hips.

8. A table or a countertop as support

Great for forward folds and stretching

9. Socks

So Savasana is cosy.

10. Your body as the most important "prop"

Because in the end it's not about how much equipment you have or what mat. It's about listening to your body and breathing consciously.
