A purple elixir for a clear mind and a calm spirit
✦ 2 min
There's a combination that works on the nervous system like a deep, refreshing breath. It all rests on the meeting of two powerful plants.
The blue flowers of butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) stimulate the production of acetylcholine, a helper for memory and clear thinking. Fresh rosemary, in turn, protects the cells of the nervous system and makes focusing easier. A perfect duo.
When the infusion has cooled a little, it's time for a pinch of Maldon salt flakes or another sea, Himalayan or Kłodawa salt, which provides the sodium needed for impulses to pass properly between neurons. Then lemon juice, meaning antioxidants, and on top of that it beautifully changes the colour of the drink. Plus a teaspoon of good honey to feed the cells with energy.
Try to be mindful while you prepare it and approach it like a meditation. Pour boiling water over a few butterfly pea flowers and a few rosemary needles. Give them 10–15 minutes, covered. Add the salt. Only when the infusion has cooled slightly, squeeze in the lemon and stir in the honey. Drink slowly. If, like me, you drink it in the morning, you can sip it and watch what is happening outside your window. Tuning yourself beautifully into the day.
